Maryville University in St Louis

Can somebody tell me something about the school, more than just statistics and collegeboard data? I have heard that it is a good school for education and nursing, but how is its communications department? Anything besides basic stats will be helpful.
Thank you.

I currently live in St Louis, so I will just comment on my impressions. It seems to be a very local school, and they advertise a lot to the non-traditional student segment it seems. I do know 1 person who really enjoyed their time there. This doesn’t strike me as a school that offers a very traditional college experience.

Thanks. Well I was extremely surprised from my chat with their admissions department. They were all extremely helpful, the only university that responded literally within hours to my emails. My main concern is, are there a lot of things that can be done around campus, opportunities as classes, sports, clubs, etc. What are the opportunities after that for grad school?

Useraverage-Actually the majority of Maryville’s population is traditional undergraduate. It is a residential campus with currently over 1/3 of the traditional population living on campus. As a matter of fact Maryville just purchased the Marriott Courtyard at the front end of campus and it will become the 3rd residence hall on campus. Maryville is regional in it’s draw of students. There are 23 states and over 10 countries represented in the student body.

Maryville has been known for education and nursing for quite some time but it’s communications program is on the rise. It has two tracks recently developed:
The Applied Media Studies concentration encompasses print and broadcast media and can lead you into a profitable and rewarding career with newspapers, magazines, book publishers, radio, television, film or online media.

In the Strategic Communication concentration, you’ll be prepared to work in public relations firms or advertising agencies, or for companies that utilize internal PR or advertising departments.

Both concentrations emphasize the development of writing, editing, listening, speaking, visualization and creative skills, all of which are essential to a successful career in communication.

Maryville just announced a Master’s in Strategic Communication program being offered beginning this fall-The only school in St. Louis offering this flexible program. Check it out.

Great school. Quality education. NCAA Division II sports, 50 clubs and organizations.
