Mason Gross (Rutgers) vs Boyer (Temple) for flute?

How would you say that these two schools compare for flute performance? Are either one of them “better”-- in terms of opportunities to play/perform, quality of the program and/or caliber/seriousness of the student body? I’ve also heard that Mason Gross is better for education degrees. Does anyone have info about this?
Thank you very much!

Academically Rutgers is probably the “better” regarded school and think in terms of performance caliber they may be just ahead as well. But flute professor wise I cannot comment. For education degrees Mason Gross treats students the same as if they were doing a performance degree so that may be what you have heard. A lot of schools have a lower performance standard for ed students but Rutgers does not. However, a lot would depend if you are based in PA or NJ as the tuition rates would be much better for an in-state student at either of those colleges and that may tip the balance.

@ararararar - what stage are you at in the process? Are you a high school freshman? A Junior? or a senior who has already applied to these schools? Or a senior who has been accepted at these schools and trying to decide where to attend?

Parent of a Mason Gross music ed graduate here.
I can echo above post that at MGSA the music requirements are the same for performance and education majors. DS had a VERY full plate completing his music ed degree: multiple ensembles, lessons, recitals AND academic classes, student teaching, etc on top.
He may have ‘invited’ himself into additional music activities due to his passion but he found all the students to be immersed and very very busy and engaged in the music ed program.

Have no info on Temple to share.
