Master List of 2011 SSAT Scores

We should be all proud of the Official Master List of 2011 Acceptances. We have put together a great list. Everybody has been very considerate to keeping it clean and formatted. Thank you everyone.

I think if we had a similar list of SSAT scores, future applicants will be able to correlate this factor with acceptances, waitlists and rejections. So I am starting this thread with the hope that everyone will list there scores here in a similar order as the Master List of 2011 Acceptances. Thank you.

I think only the overall SSAT percentile will suffice unless others think we should post more details.

SSAT percentile

Dakshina’s S: 98

Dakshina: 98
Laughalittle: 93

Many well qualified candidates with extremely high SSAT scores (95-99%) have been rejected or waitlisted at various schools.

@Rell

I am aware of many friends of my son who have been w/l or rejected despite high SSAT scores. The purpose of the thread is not to promote high SSAT score but to provide a resource to future applicants from which they can make a judgement of any correlation or lack thereof between scores and acceptances.

Ditto, Rellielou; just so that you have company.:)

OP; my experience with two different children would show that there is no correlation betw. scores (solely) and acceptance. Would not recommend students reading into that at all.

@EW21

Thanks for your input. However, if there was no (zero) correlation between scores and acceptance, schools will not be asking for SSAT or ISEE.

Nobody is denying that admission is determined by a multitude of factors, SSAT being one of them. So a blanket statement saying that “there is no correlation” is very presumptuous.

An online poll such as this is misleading at best, due to self-selection. Posters will brag either of their high SSAT scores, or of their acceptances, in spite of high SSAT scores.

I understand. I do think that more details will provide a more humbling view for future applicants. For example, I didn’t do well on the RC part of the SSATs (76-78 percentile). I accredit my success to good grades, great interview, strong participation in community service, and sunny personality. A realistic outlook will get you far. I only applied to schools that I know I was appropriate for. The most important thing is to just express a genuine interest in the school, fill out the application in a way that reflects favorably upon you, and stay true to yourself. Schools will not accept you if you act false or fake. And remember, some schools care about numbers more than the actual student. I recommend applying to the school that lives your personality, not your statistics.

SSAT taken twice.
70% and 71%.
Accepted Loomis. Waitlisted SPS and DA. You don’t need amazing SSAT scores to get into great schools.

SSAT taken once

Overall 96%

SSAT Taken Once: 99%
Accepted to Groton School (only school I applied for).

Taken twice last year, 83% then 72%

Taken once this year, 95%!

My thoughts on the SSAT is that it’s so random that your scores will be based on the luck of the draw. If you know the vocabulary words and enjoy the passages, then you will do well. If you have no idea what the synonyms mean and get a bunch of reading sections that are boring and uninteresting then you may have a harder time. Math is more straightforward but some bad wording and awkward questions can really mess up one’s score.

SSAT, taken once: 99 percentile

Waitlisted: Taft, Hotchkiss
Rejected: Exeter

People really shouldn’t pay too much attention to their SSAT score. I spent ages worrying about mine (78 Math, 78 Reading, 99 Verbal, 94% Overall) and I got into Andover. It’s really not all about the score, although it is nice to say to friends that you got a 99%. :P

math: 49%
reading: 86%
vocab: 94%

Took it once. I ended up with like an 84% overall and got into Deerfield, and waitlisted at SPS.
I don’t understand why people stress over the stupid SSAT score, it really is not a major factor.

FIRST TIME

Verbal: 99
Reading: 96
Math: 48
Overall: 92

SECOND TIME

Verbal: 97
Reading: 96
Math: 72
Overall: 96

Because apparently, schools have different bars for different applicants. What is a high score for one students isn’t always considered high for another.

Yeah, I hate to brag, but it is nice when you can tell your friends you got 99% on all sections and I’m a full 2 years younger than some of them in my grade.
