Sounds like you have some vested interest as an employee or parent so hope it works out. Other private schools require commitments and deposits soon so not sure how an extended summer recruiting schedule will work. Maybe the plan is to grab kids from public schools who are keen to pay $70K even with your proposed ideas of hybrid and now with the expense of travel. (Boarding schools charge for spring break sports trips so now factor in a month?)

Explain to me how it works. I don’t have direct knowledge. I have second hand knowledge where I was told slots are open for athletic transfers thru the summer. Do you work in admissions?
Mother was exceptionally senior admin at a “big three.” And you’re just flat out wrong. The recruiting and admissions happens during year before acceptances March 10. I now work with youth coaching and kids aren’t mostly recruited to transfer over the summer. Only at lower-tier schools who didn’t fill their classes which is why I said maybe the plan is public school kids initially. Once a kid has been admitted to and paid deposit to a boarding school they’re not changing. Sorry.

That’s interesting as I know kids placed at those schools during the summer at request of college coaches to do PG year. Maybe it’s different now?
Exception not the rule and was in the works before March. You don’t get to just decide to apply to Exeter in June.

So if basketball coach leaves and his team follows and nobody commits to the school because the coach that recruited them isn’t there, what does the school do?
Holds tryouts of the student body. Or hopes their incoming class isn’t full and they can slide someone in over the summer who doesn’t need financial aid as that’s allocated, but that only happens at lower-tier schools. This isn’t college. These aren’t revenue sports. You’re not understanding

Not every admission acceptance needs to be given March 10. Especially when they are poaching someone. Some schools will give an earlier admission or a heads up. MAI has no agreements with any of the consortiums, so they can do decisions whenever they want. They can also continue to accept people after April 10. That’s where lots of their local kids or those that weren’t considering going to boarding school will come from. Especially as they didn’t put down deposits anywhere. I’m sure they’ll be recruiting right up until opening day.
Apparently, Masters gives an incentive to put down a deposit in Jan. and sent out decisions an entire year ahead of time.

And if the coach left after the application deadline and left a school in a lurch, that’s bush league.
Admissions decisions went out March 10. Not the kids needing to secure a deposit. That’s coming up in about two weeks. But that’s why they’ll have a hard time recruiting now from private boarding schools. As I said above, probably going for local public school kids this year for the bulk of student body.
The traditional boarding schools don’t work that way. They will lose very few “follow the coach transfers”. Especially for an unknown entity. Most of their returning students likely had a deposit down before the coaches announced they were leaving. They will play with what they have and rebuild the following year. Unlike MAI, they don’t live or die by their athletic teams.

So these coaches who were just announced knew they were leaving their respective schools last year if they were recruiting so early? Dovetails with story about a coach who worked at one school recruiting kids who applied there to MAI before his switch was announced
And I believe that incentive was $5K, from what I saw.
If that’s what you want to assume from what I wrote, I guess you can, but I have no knowledge of any of that happening. Just giving some information about timelines.
