If I attend my undergrad institution for masters, would it look bad if I continued with my undergrad research project for masters thesis? On one hand, I’ll be at ease since I am familiar with the project and can hopefully finish on time if not earlier. On the other hand, my experiences and knowledge will remain limited. Basically, is this something I should worry about or does it not matter at the end of the day?

Would you have the same advisor since its the same topic? You might want to ask him/her that question. If it’s something fairly complex with a steady progression of work into that topic, I dont see any problem with it as long as you’re not redoing work you already did.

Yes, it would be the same advisor.

In that case, talk to him/her to find out. I suspect he/she will either say yes or no depending on if there’s further progression into the subject that you can do as a masters thesis. He/she isn’t going to lead you astray as it’s ultimately his/her research in the first place.
