I’m terrible at math and it’s my worst subject. I want to avoid it as much as possible in college haha. I took the math placement and I got a 33 which said I was eligible for MAT 194, MAT 221, MAT 285, MAT 295. I don’t think I’ll do very well in any of these classes so I think I want to take MAT 121 since it’s the most basic class to fill the requirement. Is this like a remedial class lol or very similar to it? Can someone tell me more about this class? Who usually takes it?

I’m a COM major in VPA by the way.

Incidentally, MAT 121 (Prob and Stats for Liberal Arts) is, according to my friends who have taken it, one of the harder math courses you can take if you’re not a Mathematics major/Engineer/what have you/not good at math. You might be better off taking MAT 194, which is Precalculus.

Might be worth seeing what others that frequent this subforum think though.

I took MAT 121 and know this: It is a class that entails open book tests but is very difficult to the point where you still would have to study for it. It is a statistics course which requires you to use data and tables. That’s why it is open book but just cautioning you to study for every exam. I would tell you which professor to avoid because of my horrible experience with him but it’s not my job to post such information here.

sounds like MAT 121 is harder than 221?

My daughter took that and thought it was pretty easy? (disclosure: she was a great math student in HS but said that if you do the problem sets the prof gives you, you’ll be fine; make sure you go over all of them before the tests)

My roommate struggled with both MAT 121 and MAT 221 but he isn’t the brightest student.

I thought MAT 183 and MAT 284 were extremely easy, but they may only be for business majors.

I thought MAT 121 was pretty I skipped class once a week and I had it three days a week and the other days I went to sleep pulled a B+ thanks to the open book and then when I took MAT 122 I thought it was even easier it was everything I was learning in Mat 183 pre-business calc class was two days a week. It depends on how good you are in math and how easily it comes to you,if you have already taken stats I would tell you to take the class
