Got into Tulane university as well. Financial aid details are not yet out but I am selected for presidential scholarship fo about $40000 per year. Hopefully, there will be some more financial assistance as well.

WOW :scream::grinning::clap: that’s awesome :tada:

Thanks. Hopefully they give me some need based aid as well

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to have my aid re-evaluated. I am extremely interest in joining this wonderful institution and this review is giving me hope. I have uploaded my most recent tax returns at Northwestern’s document submission portal, my application portal and have attached them here. I have also converted the currency from rupees to dollars.

While reviewing my CSS with my parents, I found that I have incorrectly captured my cost of living. This value was entered originally without much thought or calculation. After discussions with my parents and reviews of our bills, we have arrived at the correct values. These reflect our financial situation more accurately and demonstrate why the current financial assistance is insufficient. I request you to use professional judgement to re-evaluate my current situation. I have also attached my email conversation with the Northwestern undergraduate financial aid office, where I was assured that the net price calculator value would be accurate in my situation. I would be happy to provide any additional documentation required.

Thank you for your time and assistance. I sincerely hope I will be able to become a member of the Wildcat community.

how is this email. I am planning to send them this after Christmas break or just before Christmas break ends

Can you please share with us the question on the CSS Profile that asks for your cost of living?

I didn’t think each family cost of living was factored into the formulas for determining need based aid, unless there were extenuating circumstances of some sort.

Also you write I’m extremely interest.

Correct to interested and I’d lose the word ‘wonderful’ not that it matters.

Also, @kelsmom would be a wonderful guide for you on this one.

You would need to have some evidence wrt cost of living though.
All medical, dental, ophthalmological (eyes), odontology (braces), (but non veterinarian :yum:*) expenses if higher then bills can be included.

(* Parents once counted veterinarian expenses as part of medical)

As noted by @MYOS1634, medical expenses with documentation might be considered when reviewing your need based aid award.

What other things are contributing to a higher cost of living than you originally indicated (still wondering where that is asked on the CSS Profile).

Typo. Should read “interested”.

I would delete this sentence in its entirety. It sends the wrong message
of someone who carelessly completes official documents. I know you did not intend it that way, but remember they do not know you. Be mindful of your wording.

I also agree with @MYOS1634 and @thumper that you need to fully explain and provide supporting documentation for any new information presented with your appeal.

Fingers crossed it all works out!

I too would delete this sentence. A possible replacement could be “my parents made a gross estimate that they realized forgot a lot of elements. We realize they should not have guessed and after the results came at twice what the NPC estimated they went through our papers to understand where our mistakes may be located.”

This way, your family doesn’t sound careless and shoulders the blame for mistakes that they try to correct. Very different message than the sentence @DramaMama2021 pointed out.

I’m confused as to why NU has provided a package that doesn’t match the NPC. The only thing I can think of is that maybe your conversion to US dollars doesn’t match their conversion. They should be able to explain to you exactly why the aid package differs so much from the NPC. Saying it’s because you live in India is a generalization - what you need is specific reasons why the aid differs from the NPC. You applied ED, so you deserve to understand this discrepancy. Please email them, asking for a detailed explanation of the reasons that the NPC and the aid package do not match.

Could it be that what they entered in the NPC doesn’t match what the CSS or docs they submitted show? I think that’s common.

When I called the financial aid counsellor, he looked at the npc results and said it is because I am living in India

SHould I include it in this email as well. I asked specifically for it in the last 2 emails I sent only for them to ignore it by saying the npc is accurate only for those families living in the USA

There IS a huge difference for internationals vs. Americans but not between Americans based on location. They may or may not take local factors into account but consistently, and AFAIK they don’t necessarily take high costs into account - this is often a problem for kids who live in high cost of living vs. low cost of living areas, and it seems to me that they can’t say they take location into account to lower FA but don’t take it into account when high costs of living would justify a better package

Include copies of the emails

Yes, I wonder whether they have not focused on the fact the OP is a US citizen?
