Match colleges for 2290 SAT?

Hey guys, I got my SAT scores back today and it was a 2290, better than I EVER expected!. My college list had been based on a 2100 SAT prediction, so can you guys help me find some good matches? I’d like a school in the northeast…my first choice is Barnard, but I’m not sure if I could get in.

Objective:

SAT: 2290
GPA: 94.5 (weakness, bad soph yr due to med problems, junior is 96)
AP’s: 5 by end of HS plus two college courses

No subject tests take yet.

Subjective:

-Research-two internships, one for body language/neuroscience, one for child development
-Coauthor research paper-PUBLISHED
-Statistics-Helped with department wide study methodology

-Proficient in four languages-English, Spanish, Chinese, Hebrew
-Tutor kids in Hebrew
-Chinese Poetry Competition

Captain Debate Team, President Chinese Club

Varsity Tennis, Black belt Tae Kwon Do

I think I either want to be a nueroscience major or religious studies, but I def want to be a doctor when I grow up. I like Cornell’s School of Human Ecology, but again, I don’t think I can get in.

Legacy Columbia, UPenn, Tufts.

Suggestions PLEASE?

Are you in state for Human Ecology at Cornell? That makes a big difference.

No, I’m not. And thankfully, money isn’t an issue. We have money saved for college and medical school! So that should help.

Whew! You are one lucky kid!

Most of the college matching search engines will let you include your GPA ad SAT scores, I suggest that you run the one here at CC and the one at CollegeBoard.org and see what turns up.

Thanks, I know!

But I was wondering, I realy like cities, so any colleges within four hours of New York City, I would love personal suggestions as to what is my level!

Definitely apply to Columbia, Penn, and Tufts, especially if you’re legacy (and Cornell). You have a shot at all of them, especially Tufts. Also look at Johns Hopkins, BU, Northeastern, Boston College, Fordham, NYU, and Harvard (reach).

If Barnard is your first choice and you’ve got the money, save yourself the time and energy and ED there. If you show interest you’re in. But you’ve definitely got a shot at the other schools people have suggested as well.

@ellopoppet:Thanks, I think I will apply to Penn and Tufts,I don’t like Columbia, but have my heart set on Barnard. I think NYU would be GREAT since its close, and hopefully I’ll get in.

@Kenzie: Yep,Barnard is my first choice and I’m applying ED there. I’ve gone to their summer program twice, and have been in contact with the alumni admissions people! But it got so much more competitive this year,I really don’t think I have a shot.

Since schools that accept under 10% of their applicants are almost, by definition, not “matches” for anyone other than recruited athletes, you need to start your match list at around USNWR #16 or so, and then on to about #50, at which point your stats put you in a quasi “Safety” category.

HYPS is far reach, MIT and Caltech are reaches, then the rest of the Ivies + Chicago, Duke, Northwestern, Hopkins and WashU are slight reaches.

What about this list:

Barnard ED
Tufts
Cornell Human Ecology
UPenn
NYU
Brown? Just for giggles
Georgetown

…everything is reaches though! Ahh.

I was accepted to Barnard RD with a 34 ACT and a 3.9. You have much better ECs than I do. Look at the results threads, I think you’ve got a very good shot and ED would give you the extra boost  but having other options is never a bad thing

Proficient in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Hebrew?

So you can read left to right, right to left, and top to bottom?

YES.

OMG I never thought of that. This excites me more than my SAT score.

bumpin this up.

I don’t know about your majors of interest. But about the question of reaches/matches: IMO, there really ARE no “matches” for your stats - just reaches and safeties. Don’t hang all your hopes on schools that “match” your SAT. Good luck, and congratulations! :)

Hmm. That is what I kind of expected.Hopefully I’ll get into at least one decent school…I really just want to be close to home!

Close to home and attend a top 20 college? I hope you don’t live in South Dakota, or New Mexico :)
