How reliable is that data
Would going to a state school be better option with these stats or look fo CC and then transfer.

Thanks for all the help.

Note CA state schools are test blind this admission cycle.

State schools: UC Riverside, UC Irvine and UC Berkeley since all 3 have Business schools. UCB is the only non direct admit into the Business school.

Other State schools with good Business programs: San Diego State, Cal Poly SLO, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal State Fullerton, San Jose State.

Safety: Local Cal State as long as the program is not impacted or Community college.

See which CSU is local based on service area: https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/freshman/documents/csulocaladmission-serviceareas.pdf

Impacted CSU majors and campuses: https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/impaction-at-the-csu/Documents/ImpactedProgramsMatrix.pdf

Private California Schools: Pepperdine, Santa Clara, University of San Diego, University of San Francisco.

Does she want to stay in-state or go OOS? Location preferences?

Out of state suggestion would be Arizona State and apply to Barrett’s Honors college or University of Arizona.

Calculate UC/CSU GPA’s here: GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub

I agree with @Gumbymom but you didn’t say what you want. For example, if you want a smaller private school, U of Denver may work. Or a U of Pacific. Or any # of liberal arts colleges in Oregon such as Linfield, Pacific Lutheran, Puget Sound, etc.

Or does she want to go across the country, etc. What are more of her likes.

I think a school like Santa Clara is iffy - but certainly some Cal State Schools are in range and Arizona and ASU are both good as is UNLV, Oregon, Washington State, and any # of schools on the East Coast, South or midwest. It would help to know what you’re looking for - location, size wise, location wise, etc.

Thanks

Her preference is west coast or Midwest.
I think with her scores in state UCs seems reach.
Private schools are ok as long as within 50k range
Would a CSU be better option than ASU or university of Arizona type of schools or vice versa.
Will Purdue or Indiana Bloomington be safety or reach?

Would Jesuit schools be considered as it seems she may enjoy service learning?

Xavier? Loyola?

UC’s are test blind through the 2025 admission cycle and her UW GPA looks like it could be competitive for UCR and possibly UCI. Really depends upon her UC GPA’s.

What area of Business is she interested in pursuing?

CSU’s offer a great education for the money

Just my guess.
Purdue looks like a match.

Indiana *Kelley may be a reach. They accept weighted GPA.

I think Indiana is a great safety for her as I’m pretty sure her SAT score makes her an auto admit into the business program.

So it seems like she wants larger - so IU is a safety as others have said (maybe not Kelly). Price wise without aid you’ll be close.

I’d add Miami of Ohio, Pitt, Kentucky, Mizzou, Oregon, Washington State, Colorado - there’s so many wonderful schools. U of A or ASU are great if she likes them and have good merit - but are they better than going to San Diego State or Humboldt State or Sac State…not necessarily. If one wants to major in Supply Chain, ASU is the Harvard of the major. For Information Systems, Arizona is excellent. If one wanted to study hospitality, UNLV would be the place to go.

If these schools are too big, look at mid size schools like U of Denver, Butler, or any of the catholic colleges of you are ok there - Santa Clara, San Diego, Loyola Marymount, etc.

Most, if not all these, should be within budget with merit.

Good luck to you.

ASU’s main campus is really huge and the weather is really hot. I’d put its academic reputation in the biz community on-par with mid tier CSUs like Sac State. Some people love it but, its not for everyone. Visit when school is in session.

I(f she’s looking for a residential experience, SDSU Chico and Sonoma and UNR Or State are good targets. CPP. CSULB, SJSU, Fullerton, Nortridge and Sac (as well as UCR) have well respected biz programs but, more of a commuter vibe.

Chapman, USD and LMU will probably admit her but are likely to be expensive.

knowing your UC/CSU GPA would help put a finder point on these.

Now that most campuses are open, visit as many as you can - talk to current students and ask about their experience. You’ll find some feel more like home than others - . Pay little attention published rankings. Honestly, a student experience that fits your kid is way more important.

Her UC Weighted GPA is 3.88 if I look at only classes for 10th and 11th grade.
Also, not sure if the AP Psych test was self study only, whether that’ll be counted towards GPA or not.
So w/o that it is 3.88.

She is not going to do Accounting or Finance, rest she’ll figure out as she takes classes I guess.

Self Study AP exam is not included in the GPA but if she took an on-line class, then that grade would be counted in the GPA.

Here are the UC GPA (capped weighted) ranges for 2020 to give you an idea of competitiveness along with admit rates based on the GPA:
2020 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:

UCB: 4.22 (4.13-4.30)

UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.31)

UCSD: 4.16 (4.04-4.28)

UCSB: 4.15 (4.03-4.27)

UCI: 4.11 (3.96-4.26)

UCD: 4.11 (3.97-4.25)

UCSC: 3.94 (3.71-4.16)

UCR: 3.88 (3.65-4.11)

UCM: 3.68 (3.40-3.96)

2020 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:

UCB: 14%

UCLA: 8%

UCSD: 39%

UCSB: 40%

UCD: 55%

UCI: 38%

UCSC: 82%

UCR: 90%

UCM: 97%

I think I would focus on the Cal states (not SLO or SDSU) but several of the other CSU’s with good Business programs: Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Fullerton, CSU Long Beach, Chico State, Sac State, San Jose State etc… I would also have her apply to UC Riverside as a Slight Reach school. From there you can look into some privates such as Loyola Marymount, University of Redlands, University of the Pacific, Chapman University if she wants to stay in California.

ASU and U of Arizona other good options for OOS. You may want to consider the WUE and see which OOS schools might be of interest.

We need weighted GPA to know if your D qualifies for Kelley Direct Admit…what is that? If that’s 3.8+ she will qualify for direct admit (coupled with the 1420 SAT score), then IU becomes a safety if it is affordable. IU tuition and R&B will be just over $50K first year (not counting books, travel, etc.) then if she lives off-campus the following years you should be able to reap some savings.

Your daughter is a strong candidate for IU-Kelley.

Thank you all for your replies, @Gumbymom @tsbna44 @NCalRent for detailed replies.
Definitely are considering the state schools, IU and Purdue.
ASU, U of Arizona is also on the list for application.

Thanks a lot for all your insights.
