S25 is looking for an LAC with strong foreign language programs in French and Japanese, as well as (hopefully) international business major option. Also hoping for study abroad options in Japan and Morocco (language immersion, not attending courses in English).
Ideally no greek life or minimal greek life.
Also, huge points if the music program allows non music majors to take courses and have private instruction/lessons (classical guitar).
SAT 1420 & scored 5 in all AP courses taken to date.
If your student is interested in an LAC-like experience in an urban setting, you might consider Fordham (LIncoln Center campus.) Terrific international business, plus Japanese, French, opportunities for classical guitar. No Greek life.
I think you need to find Japanese as most will have French.
Most LACs will not have business but if that’s what you want, look at schools like Bucknell, Dickinson, F&M, Kalamazoo, Richmond, Wake Forest, Wash & Lee, and for a public LAC College of Charleston.
By the way all those above have business in some form with Charleston, Richmond and Dickinson having international.
Check for frequency of offerings (all have both languages), especially Japanese - and ability to double or triple major.
Study abroad should be a secondary concern bcuz at most colleges, if they don’t have the program you need, another school will. Mine did one in Korea from U of Nebraska this year but goes to Charleston.
As an outlier - not a LAC - URI might be the best fit of all - their INTL Bus program.
This list runs the gamut selectivity wise. And in some ways cost wise.
Fabulous feedback–thank you. We visited Dickinson and he LOVED it. I was also super impressed. I will have him check out College of Charleston and URI. Those were not on my radar. Wake Forest is just down the road from us and the very Greek-heavy social scene is not his deal at all.
+3 on Middlebury but it’s worth noting that they fill a very large portion of the class through ED. RD acceptance is quite difficult, so ED2 is something to consider.
