Because he really wants to be closer to a metropolitan area. But he should think about that. For example, AU is in DC but still 15 mins from anything. Wake has some but little around it. That isn’t an issue at Ann Arbor. So maybe that’s enough. But if he wants a metro area it’s not. Madison is bigger. Minneapolis much bigger.
