RPI manifests world-level aspirations in certain areas of technology. This may or may not be relevant to an undergraduate student.
A student with this combination of interests might be well-suited to a data science major, especially if applied mathematics, notably statistics, seems appealing.
Consider N.C. state a reach. We know in state kids with higher GPAs and high tear scores get turned down for CS. Out of state you need a near perfect GPA and 34+ ACT for STEm there.
@OctoberKate Thanks for your insights. I have heard this exact story as well from other kids in our circles which is why VT for us would really be a reach. WPI’s quarter system, and study abroad projects for very tech people is very appealing to her. Thanks to everyone on this thread for that suggestion!
With that profile, she should apply to VT. My son has an academic profile that is similar but slightly inferior to your daughter and he was admitted to VT for computer science beginning in fall of 2024. He is out of state (Pennsylvania), which is probably easier than getting in from a large school in NOVA from where VT receives a ton of applications.
