Thanks, my application is still pretty unfinished so I think my chances could improve after I’ve completed everything.

Gonna take BC next year for sure. Probably gonna take both CSA and CSP next year tbh. Intereste in learning how to code. Thanks for your input.
Hard no on the music teacher LoR. You only want LoRs from teachers from one of the core subject areas.
I would also discourage the econ LoR, BUT if it will be glowing and better than any other teacher you could ask, then go ahead. Which two core teachers do you think will write the best LoRs for you? Ask your two teachers for LoRs before summer break, and give them a brag sheet and/or your resume.
Here is what BC says about LoRs:
Teacher Evaluations - You are required to submit two teacher evaluations as part of your application to Boston College. We recommend that these evaluations are written by teachers who have taught you in one of the five main academic subject areas (English, Social Studies, Science, Math, or Foreign Language).
For IU, if you reach 1370 on your SAT, Kelley business school will be a safety as long as your GPA, whether weighted or unweighted is 3.8+, printed on your transcript, and you apply by Nov 1 (also assuming affordability.)
Take one, not both. CSA is programming, CSP is a little bit of everything (programming, informatics…) with a personal project. Since you’ve never programmed before it may be a better choice.
Damn this really sucks. I have a ton of state level awards through music competitions and leadership too.
I mean I can ask my English teacher alongside my history teacher. I maintained a 4.0 on both classes AP Lang and APUSH. But other than that, I’m not super close with them, so I’m not sure if I would be the best candidate. I would say I’m not a stellar student or their favorite, but just a good student that does their assignments and doesn’t make a hassle.
Yeah chilling on this. My UW will end up around a 3.82, W around a 4.05 ish.
Your music teacher could write an extra letter, since the subject is meaningful to you and they’d have things to say.
In your case, would your Stats be able to write you a letter of recommendation, or your Physics teacher… barring that, your calc BC teacher may be able to do it.
English or history are fine, but if your Econ teacher has something interesting and personal to write about, I’d say that’s okay (it’s a social science and related to what you want to study).
So like a supplemental essay then?
I could ask my stats teacher but I’m not sure if he would be the best candidate as I didn’t perform that strong in his class. Around a B/B+ for the year round. I don’t have a physics nor BC teacher this year.
Not sure if my econ teacher would really have anything personal nor interesting. I mean I work very hard in the class and shes also my study hall teacher and I work very hard in study hall. But not sure if those mean anything.
Our school recommends A for those who already have some coding experience (and principles otherwise). People seldom do both.
Im not gonna do both. I dont have any coding experience so then I guess CSP would be a better fit for me then?
Not all colleges accept a supplemental letter but many do.
Do your English or History teachers know you better than your Econ teacher?
Your stats teacher may be able to speak about perseverance…?
(The calc BC teacher would be In case your Stats teacher doesn’t agree).
Doing well in class is not always a prerequisite for a good letter of recommendation. In one of the college presentations we went to (I forget which, but it may have been Georgetown) , the presenter gave an example of a letter of rec they’d received about a student who had struggled in the class and how impressed the teacher was with the effort they had put into getting on top of the work. We heard a few times, don’t just assume the teachers in your best classes will write the best letters. They want to see your qualities through a teacher’s eyes - whether that is how you cope with work you find difficult, how you engage in class with the teacher and fellow students, or other personal qualities that will make them think “this is someone we want in our classes”.
Econ knows me pretty well. I had a massive comeback from like a B to an A in a single marking period third quarter, I also am in her study hall as mentioned before. Compared to History/English I do not interact with them as much.
I mean I genuienly try hard in the stats class, Im just not the best at it compared to my peers. I could ask my stats teacher as a viable option.
