I’m interested in a math major. I hate reading and writing because i don’t have to work at all for that but I do for math which makes it more worthwhile to me. Besides, nobody’s hiring for english majors now anyway

I live in california btw. My UC/csu gpa is 3.67…schools in california would be nice, but I’m also okay with florida schools since my dad lives there

I’m applying to UCirvine/davis/santa barbara/etc and not the top top UCs
and csu long beach/slo/pomona
Any colleges I have missed? is slo too much of a reach? any advice would be nice

You will be doing reading and writing as a math major – you will be reading math books and research papers, and writing up math problems and proofs of theorems.

If you are concerned about employability, you may want to add a few courses in application areas like statistics, economics, and computer science.

Most of the UCs are considered good for math majors.

You may also want to consider University of Minnesota, Twin Cities – regarded as good for math, with an out of state list price similar to or lower than the in-state list price for UCs.

Cal Poly SLO has relatively few math majors, and a large percentage of them go on to teaching credential programs, according to its career survey. Depending on your career goal, that may be make it more or less attractive to you.

I know I’ll be doing reading and writing- I meant, I hate reading literature and then writing an essay about its symbolism or whatever. I’m fine with reading about math etc, and I was considering double majoring with econ. I’ll look into the comp sci, i never thought about that

I didn’t know about U of Minnestota, thanks! I’m not interested in teaching math so I think i’ll probably not apply to cal poly then
