Matching other offers - sibling attending same college

I know that many colleges will match financial aid offers from comparable schools. I’m wondering if that would affect a sibling attending the same school.

So if for example S is junior attending Cornell and getting financial aid based on Harvard’s formula, if his sister gets accepted and attends Cornell will they use the same family contribution? Or could the same family possibly have 2 students with very different financial aid packages simultaneously attending the same institution? Not necessarily Cornell, just using that as an example.

You will need to have a chat with the financial aid office about this if/when the sibling gets accepted. Back in the stone age, my sisters’ college did offer a sibling discount which would have made my dad happy if their years there had overlapped.

Each kid has their own need based financial aid award. If Cornell matched an offer from another school…your second kid would also need to have an offer to match. I seriously doubt the school would match your first kid’s award…that first kid got more because of a more substantial award elsewhere.

But when the time comes…you can ask…
