material science engineering & courses

so can anyone give me personal experiences about the materials science department? are there good research opportunities, etc?

i couldn’t take orgo my first semester, i only placed into gen chem and i only APed out of gen chem lecture (i also didn’t think i wanted to go into an engineering that required orgo), and i’m taking physics this next semester… will i be behind if i don’t take orgo over the summer? will i be allowed to start taking MSE classes concurrently with orgo next fall?

most of the intro courses only require gen chem. however, you need to take orgo I to graduate
