Materials Engineering Degree vs. Plastics Engineering Degree?

Hey CC,

So I am between picking two schools. However, they have slightly different degrees. UW-Milwaukee has a Materials Engineering degree while UW-Stout has a Plastics Engineering degree (not alot of schools have this). Stout does have a job placement percentage of over 97% or around there. But i was wondering, would majoring something like plastics be too limiting compared to the whole materials engineering degree? thanks!

I’d go with majoring in materials engineering and take a bunch of electives on plastics. That way you wouldn’t be limited to one industry in case it turns out you really don’t like polymers. It might turn out you like metals, ceramics, composites, semiconductors, etc instead.
