I am wondering about this program. Is it a broad degree? Do you actually find jobs with the degree or is it more research based? And where? Auto industry? Defense?

Is it exactly what it says it is, meaning you learn about materials? i/e finding the right material in order to make something more elastic, or stronger, etc?

You find plenty of industry jobs. I heard a quote somewhere that one of the main things that will advance our society greatly will be the development of better materials. I will note that as I have been applying for internships and research opportunities, many are out there for people interested in material science and engineering.

Yes, you learn to develop better materials for your applications. It is used everywhere.
