I got 10/20A with my calc AB AP 5 and will get 10/20B either through my Math HL score or through my calc BC AP score. I want to do a geology minor; will i need to do 10c or 20c?

that will depend on your major; if you tell me your major, i’ll find out for you.

i’m pretty sure for geology u just need the 10 series

but i know for sure the 20 series is for engineering and econ majors at least…and you could take the 20 series in place of the 10 series but usually you just want to go the easier path

http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/curric/ERTH.html

geology major is at the top under ERTH/geology (major requires the 20 series) ; minor info is at the bottom

I’ve seen the info from that page before. It doesn’t answer my question

my major will “Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution”

well if you’ve seen that page, you should’ve seen this one too

The highest AP Calc BC score will only exempt you from 10A-B or 20A-B. Your major requires the 10 series or the 20 series, so you will have to take one of the following: 10c, 11, or 20c.
Unless you really like math, go for the easiest of the three, but since you want a geology minor…

As you read, the geology minor requires 28 units of earth science courses. Although it does not say anything about math, a geology major requires the 20 series; if I were you, I would pick 20c to be safe. Best thing to do is to call an UCSD advisor about this and ask if there are mathematics requirements for a geology minor.

For a geo minor, 20C is your best bet. If you notice, some of the courses that you can take for your minor require through 20D (and the Phys2 sequence), so if it seems you want to take those, you should take the math20 series. If you know you never want to take the geophysics or geodynamics, than the 10 series should be fine… But like cali45 said, you should talk to an advisor. You can call or e-mail them (they are usually really good about responding to e-mails quickly), and I would contact an advisor from the earth sciences department, not your resident college.

i’d suggest the 20 series
it’ll keep your options open
and it’s honestly not hard at all, especially if you got a 5 on the AP

I agree with SilentFire… 20 series isn’t that bad (though I am not in 20C yet). 20A-B were a breeze (never took calc before) and I can do some 20C homework already pretty easily because of physics…Not that bad.
