While trying to register today, I was told that I had to take Math 118 before I could take Math 218. In the past, I was under the impression that a score of 4 or 5 on the AP Calc AB or BC exam would exempt me from having to take Math 118.

When you register the system always reminds you of the prereqs. You should be able to register for Math 218 but sometime’s there’s a problem and the system says you have to take Math 118 even though you had AP credit. (Last week I was trying to register for BUAD 351 and it wouldn’t let me b/c I had to have taken Math 118 but I had AP credit so I just emailed my advisor and he fixed it so that I could register.

unless you took the exact numbered course at USC that’s a prerequisite, you always need to get it waived (it’s a procedural/technical matter, not a policy thing)

For example, I waived MATH 125 and MATH 126 (calc 1 and 2) with my AP Calc BC, and I took MATH 226 (calculus 3). Now you would think that would be enough, but for every single class that has MATH 125 or MATH 126 as a prerequisite, I have to go to the department advisor and get them to waive 125 or 126 before I can register.
