I didnt do so great on my ACT Math section and U of I wants me to take the math proficiency test. However I am enrolled in AP AB Calc, so would I still have to take the proficiency exam? Does that hinder on what i score on my AP test? Thanks

AP score will help you pass out of Math 220. If you dont score high enough ( I think you need a 4? ) then you have to take the class or pass the proficiency exam (80%+).

What if you scored high enough on your Exam (I take IB HL Math… and (on a scale from 1 to 7, 7 being highest) I think it says you need a 6 or a 7 to pass out Math 220)? But flunk the proficiency exam? Would I still need to take Math 220? Thanks.

“All incoming students are allowed to take a UIUC departmental proficiency exam in math, chemistry or physics, if they wish to try to proficiency out of an introductory course.”

If you get the credit on the exams, there’s no reason you should be taking the proficiency exam for that same credit. However, I don’t know of any advisor that would let you skip out on any class if you failed the proficiency exam for it. If you fail the proficiency exam, that’s kind of indicative you don’t know enough about that subject to meet university standards.

It’s a question to ask your advisor during your summer registration.

If I were you, I would take Math 220 at U of I. The class is worth 5 credits, and is incredibly easy. Its really an easy A.
