Thinking of doing summer at Berkeley. Math 53, UGBA Intro to Finance and UGBA Investments. Total of 11 units. Doable, or not recommended?

I don’t know how time-intensive the business courses are, so I’ll try to give my opinion. I think most people would agree that 11 units is a lot. Math 53, is a tough class and will require a lot of time. Remember that you’re taking all the work required for the regular class and condensing it into a 8-10 week period so you’re going to be moving through the material twice as fast. So as a rule of thumb, this would be equivalent to taking 22 units during a regular semester.

Generally, yes this is doable. There are people who take that many units per semester, but it’s going to take a lot of work.

Would you feel comfortable taking 6 (non-lab) courses in a regular semester?

However, the general catalog lists UGBA 103 as a prerequisite for UGBA 133, if those are the two business courses you are considering.

UGBA classes are really easy in the summer. I took 2 UGBA courses and a technical class and didn’t have any problems getting good grades. I took UGBA 131, 132, and Engineering 7 for a total of 10 units. I probably could have taken another UGBA course if i wanted to. If i were you, however, i would take Econ 136 because it covers pretty much all the material in UGBA 103,131,and 133 in one course. In fact, the UGBA 133 book during the summer was the same as my Econ 136 book.

I took Math 53+54 in the summer and it was a lot of work in the summer. My courseload was doable as long as you sacrifice a lot of time into the work. I’m not sure how 2 UGBA classes fare to Math 54, but if it’s harder or similar, I wouldn’t recommend it. It is doable however as long as you put it a lot of time into your work and don’t procrastinate. Then again, even more classes is doable regarding the same guidelines.

Thanks for all the advice.
I think I’ll go ahead with my plan, and perhaps start doing preparation for Math 53 this semester just to be safe!
