Math and Science, all mental work and no scrap paper.

My brother went to school for a year and dropped out because he felt the school was crazy. In Math and science, you were not allowed to use scrap paper. So on tests you would have the problem and a small box to put just the answer. if you were to be caught using a scrap paper or writing outside of the small box you would get a zero on the test/quiz.

This really sucked, he couldnt take it anymore. He was in engineering also.

How can you solve a Physics problem without paper?

Also when he took his placement exam, it was on a computer, again with no scap paper or writing utencil.

Is your school like this.

Which school is this?!

What was the philosophy behind this?

that sucks for your brother… i know at notre dame they dont let you use calculators, im not sure how that works

sounds like only geniuses can take those classes

Wow that blows…

On my physics and math tests, i would scribble everywhere.

It is also normal to not have calculators on tests. My math classes were like this. They would just have you give the answer in terms of variables, or if there were calculations, they would be rather simple to do by hand.

No scrap paper? What?

Ameechee who is zorz?

anyway,It was Cuny City Tech.

Where I go, one cannot use any calculator at all. When I do my homework, I do use my TI 89 to just check my work.

Even the students who have been out of school for a while and need to take a math placement test, are not allowed to use a calculator. I think that is unfair.

However, one can write out whatever they need to in order to get to the answer on any math test.

I do not understand the mentality behind not using scrap paper at all.

goat4d = zorz, don’t listen to him. He likes to bull-**** a lot.
