math, bio, or engineering

which would be best to major in at nyu? im into all of them but im not sure.

i love math and i know courant is one of the best, but are there any really good math careers?

im really interested in engineering, but the dual degree program is new, and poly doesn’t have a great reputation, so should i take the risk?

ive always found bio pretty difficult, but always a backup for me. how is bio at nyu?

It all depends on what you find interesting. If you do not have a natural propensity towards biology, then you probably should not pursue that major. If you like mathematics only under the context of real-world situations, then Engineering might be the right path for you. Mathematics at Courant is very difficult, and only for the dedicated. It can be cut-throat at times.

You should try and sit in some summer classes if you can.

The best major is of course whatever YOU are interested in. All 3 are difficult and not worth it unless you’re sure it’s the program for you.

You can do pretty much any job with a Math major - liberal arts majors like humanities, science and math don’t lead directly to jobs - so as a math major pretty much most fields are open to you, because you can do quantitative jobs and most entry level jobs…math majors commonly go into finance, accounting or business from what i’ve seen at NYU.

As for Bio, I reccommend you take Principles of Bio I and II freshmen year and this will probably tell you if it’s the right program for you. Personally bio is my least favorite of the science programs at NYU but it’s not bad or anything.
