Hello! I LOVE MATH! I am currently in Geometry Honors as a ninth grader after taking Algebra 1 in eight grade. Should I approach my teacher or counselor about this? I find myself learning Algebra 2 and Precalculus already and being the second best student on our large math team. I am kinda halfway through the year though.
I would say go for it I was in geo hon in 9th grade as well and did extremly well in alg 2 hon. This year though got hard since I did college algebra first semester and doing college precalc/trig (mac1147) right now. And I would approach the teacher first since they may be more experienced in math.
I doubt there is much more you will get in geometry–you are already in honors. You’ve probably noticed that competitive math is a lot harder than the more straightforward problems you get in the classroom.
I suggest if you feel confident about Algebra2 and are willing to work through all the material in some way, that you see whether the school will allow you to test out of it and go into Precalculus. Just make sure you really do get all of Algebra2 and whatever trig is included in your school’s algebra2 class, This is important material for later math. I am not so sure it would be wise to test out of two sequential classes though, but you could discuss that as well, depending how comfortable you feel with the material. You just want to make sure you are confident with the material because the last thing you want is to get in over your head.
