Math I or Math II

I’m in Pre-Calc Honors this year, going to AP Calc AB next year. Not bad on math. I heard Math I is easier, but Math II is more respected? Also, I’m not going into college with a math or engineer major or anything like that so…

Math Level 2 is often reported as being an easier test with a better curve and a better reputation for colleges, so you should probably go with that test.

Isn’t that the opposite? Shouldn’t it be harder test with better curve?

SAT Subject Tests are not inter-normalized. See Higher Education Professionals | College Board;

I’m not sure what silverturtle means by ‘inter-normalized’. But it is true that the mean of the math 2 test is higher than the mean of the math 1 test. However, there is also the fact that the group of test-takers is different and biases the results. For an extreme example of this, take a look at the language tests. I don’t think that the Chinese or Korean tests are exceptionally easy - I think they are taken largely by native speakers.

Math 1 covers easier material but , I believe, has a less-forgiving curve. However, the best method to decide is probably experimental. Try some sample tests for each.

I mean that percentiles do not correlate to similar scores for different tests and that the College Board makes no attempt to curve the tests in order to achieve that.

The concensus on CC among students who have taken the test is that the test covers more basic material but is more difficult–even disregarding the curve.

Do colleges prefer one over the other? (Not engineering schools)

take Math II
