I heard today that the math level 2 subject test isn’t exactly “harder” by much but it’s simply on different materials. Is that true?

The Math Level II covers more material than the Level I test does, and thus can be considered “harder” on the basis of what it tests. However, some people, myself included, consider the level II test to actually be easier because of the extremely lenient curve on it, as opposed to the brutal curve on the level I test. On the level II test, you can skip up to 6 questions (while answering the other 44 correctly), and still score a perfect 800. On the level I test, however, your score drops immediately after skipping a question or answering one incorrectly. Therefore there’s a little less pressure going into the level II test knowing that you have quite a bit of room for error.

in addition to that, more people who are good at math take level 2, and so the percentiles are really scary. you may get a 790 and still be in the 85th percentile.

yeah level 2 is considered harder. the UCs have stopped recognizing level one as a satisfying SAT II.
