math m 199?

I am an admitted student and on my onestart, it says that i am exempt from math m 199 for ahving a 30 in act math, i went on iu website and i couldn’t find what math m 199 is? is it a typo meaning math m 119 calculus?

I think it must be a typo. If you go into the IUB website, search for bulletins, you can find graduation requirements for each school. In the bulletin it will explain the what course the ACT scores exempts you from taking.

on the cas college bulletin it says a 29 or higher in the math section exempts a student from having to take any math course but since im a kelley student, it looks like ill still have to take m119 and m118 because they are i-core prereq.

Math M199 is a remedial math course required of those who haven’t completed basic algebra/trigonometry courses. You can also waive out of it (as you did) by getting a high enough score on the incoming math competency tests.

I’d say at least 85% of people waive out of it without even realizing it. As indicated, the point is to make sure that graduating students have at least the basic math skills necessary, regardless of major.

It is also a key to making sure that people who have to go on and take other math courses are ready for the calculus courses, finite math courses, and statistics courses prior to enrolling in them.

Forgot to mention–the reason it is not listed in any of the course descriptions or in the undergraduate bulletins is because you will not get college credit for the course. If you are required to take it, you are expected to complete it as part of your “college preparatory” program (even though you are allowed to take it while already enrolled).

o, ok thanks
