Do you think this is true? I feel like I cannot major in Math unless if I’m a boss at it (AIME qualifier, 800 SAT math without trying, aced Calc BC without studying, physics is fun and not hard…, in multivariable calc senior year, etc)

If so… ****.

Depends where you want to be a math major.

I see you as more of a Parks and Recreation kind of guy.

It’s not difficult to major in math. I think you’re confusing majoring in math with getting a Ph.D in math, which is significantly more difficult (You really have to be a natural math genius). I self-studied Calc AB (5), got 800 on Math II, 800 on Math Reasoning, and I believe it will be difficult for me to get a Ph.D in math.

^ ****. I believe I can do it though.

This is why I don’t plan to be a mathematician. It takes way too much effort for little rewards. Besides, my dream is to become an astrophysicist and advocate. I might minor in it, though, or, if I somehow get the time, do a triple major with math as the 3rd major.

I planned on getting my PhD in math… or PhD in CS.

Speaking of which, how much does a CS professor get paid?

Math is in my life and of it.
It’s fun. Physics is fun. I have an F in Calc BC yet I know the material that easily.

I’ve always wondered this as well. How about for other STEM majors besides math? Chem? Physics? CS? If I go to a very competitive college, just how genius to I have to be do major in these subjects?

black math kid says wut? o_O

Every time I read a post like this, I just have to remind myself that I’m still smarter than 99% of the population, curse your name in jealousy, and move on.

^^ Yeah… I don’t turn in work. Only reason why, doing work for other classes, while my online Calc BC course suffers.

Wasn’t it you, just a few short months ago, that said his lowest grade ever on anything was like an 88 or something? No MIT with an F in calc. Hell, no MIT with an A- in calc.

Small time. Insert one-up here.

Yeah… but trust me. My grade is rising, as I turn in the work.
It’s a long year.

^^ The apathy of CC as a whole toward his perceived abilities in math is better than any one-up. Silent condescension works just fine.

@PioneerJones and Jersey13: Insert what up where? o_O I’m confused.

I’ve met 3 people that have a Ph.D/about to get a Ph.D in math and I can guarantee that they’re all math geniuses. Frankly, if you can’t get 800 on Math Reasoning without studying, you’ll have a hard time being a successful Math Ph.D.

Anyone who’s good at math can get a BA/BS in math, though.

Well… it looks like I’m pushing myself to the limit.

Good post.

^^^ Well maybe it’s the product of getting the Ph.D that makes the a genius :P?

I’m probably gonna double major with Physics/Math, and try to pursue a Ph.D in physics though I’m no genius :c.
