When it comes down to a problem you just can’t solve or eliminate any choices, do you choose to omit or guess ?

Omit if you have absolutely no idea. 20% chance just isn’t enough to warrant guessing when you get a penalty if you get it wrong.

The issue of omission versus guessing is related to what score one wants. For example, if you want an 800, never omit. (Only rarely can -1 yield an 800.) Another special situation requires playing by ear: if you are near the end of the Math portion of the test and you feel that you’ve done very well so far (-0 or -1), guess even if you can’t eliminate anything; even if you miss the question, it won’t affect your raw score.

Nonetheless, in most situations the general rule of guessing only when you can eliminate one choice is the best advice. Oftentimes, however, there are ways of eliminating choices even if you can’t solve the problem.

hmmmm… isn’t 2 omits the same thing as 2 wrong in terms of raw score since it rounds?

^ Yes, that was my point.
