Math20C - A = 95% and up?

So the choices for Math20C are James Lin or “staff”. I looked up James Lin on RMP and it says that he is a tough grader, as in 95% or up is an A. I was wondering if that standard is department wide, or decided teacher by teacher. Let me know if you’ve taken 20C before and if 95% for an A is standard. Thanks.

I had Shuichiro Takeda … Fall 2006? Pretty sure the cutoff for an A was around 85%.

^ well thanks for the info. Wow quite a huge gap between 95% and 85%. Wish they would just fill in those staff positions so we can make informed decisions. Jeez…

even though that curve for an a is high, his tests are predictable. they are basically off the homework that he assign and any other extra materials he assigns. it’ll be easy to get an A-, but getting an A will require a different attitude. Perfection in everyone of his exams and quizzes. But another bonus is that if you do well on the mid term, you don’t have to take the final unless you’re really desperate for that A instead of an A-.

Probably the reason it was so high was because his tests that year was so difficult. He’ll probably start giving harder tests to lower the percentage. Also, 95% for an A isnt too outrageous. Most of the 20 series have 90% as the minimum for an A- so usually an A is ~93%.
