Matriculating a year late?

Hello all -

Recently I was accepted into a full scholarship year long study abroad program. I intend on completing this program and completing my credits required for graduation by the appropriate time.

However, I would end up entering college a year later than all my peers as I would be taking more AP classes + college classes (I would basically be doing an extra year of high school)

What are the pros/cons to this decision? How would this affect my college admissions chances (my SATs would also be later)?

Thank you.

What you should do is apply normally into your suite of colleges. Take your SATs, get your rec letters, everything done – just as if you were enrolling. Once you (and they) decide, then ask for a year’s deferral. Your situation is very normal and I’ve never heard of a college saying NO. I would not pass up your opp abroad. Congrats!
