Mattress Advice

@momo2x2018 you should purchase wicked sheets. They wick away the sweat and make sleeping much more comfortable! Absolutely worth the cost.

@mompop Wow, thanks!! I’d never heard of those; just went to their website. Ordering today!!!

momo2x2018, we just purchased a Saatva Luxury Firm mattress. It felt quite firm at first, but I very feel comfortable now after a week. We went with an innerspring hybrid because neither of us like to sink into our mattress, and my husband is much heavier than I am. I did find I had to change up my pillow for side sleeping (I sleep on my back as well), but my husband does not need to. We were sleeping on an old firm mattress with a memory foam topper. Good luck with your search!

@momo2x2018 Just an update…we’ve slept on the mattress for a few days and are very happy with it. I’m not picky, but my husband (a finicky side sleeper) finds the new mattress much better. We both think the mattress sleeps cooler than our old one…so maybe it’s due to the gel technology(?).

Anyway, here are a couple of things to think about:

  • sheets. This new mattress is much thicker than our old one. Our flannel sheets fit fine, but I’ll probably buy some new cotton sheets for the summer…I’m fine with that since we’ve had them for years, but it may be an added expense.
  • box spring. Because of the thickness of the mattress, we purchased a low profile box spring so their combined height on our bed frame works. If we had kept our old box spring, we would have to hop up onto the bed…not a big deal now, but we figured it might be an issue in the future.

Lastly, the “bed in a box” was convenient for navigating up our stairs, but it was quite heavy. We waited for our son to help move it…I didn’t think I could carry an end without dropping it or hurting myself.

Love my Saatva - got a soft one despite most recommendations. Put it on a new platform bed so no need for a box spring. Bonus is that they will remove your old mattress and box spring. Very easy to work with and kept me updated every step of the way. There are some promo codes around for $100 discount.
