I need a new mattress. My mattress (an expensive Aireloom) has not given me a decent night’s sleep in years. I can sleep anywhere except my own bed. I need to sleep. I also like to read in bed, so I’m thinking split-mattress. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated. Did I mention that I need to sleep?
I opened this thread because we just purchased a new mattress, and it has made an enormous improvement with the aches and pains I would awaken with (or lack thereof).
Thank you @thumper1 Yes, I do like their bed; Westin website does not allow for returns. I will have to check Pottery Barn’s return policy. I need to know I will sleep without hot-flashes!
We just purchased a Brentwood Home Oceano mattress. We won’t receive it until next week so I can’t comment on how we like it.
My husband did the research online and then we visited a store in Chicago (a Sleep Sherpa Showroom) that has a large display of online brand mattresses to test. They were knowledgeable and helpful. The return policy is for one year!
Several years ago we got a thinner box spring to go with our new mattress- the standard one made the bed much too high even for tall people. Use recliners for reading. Quit watching TV in bed because would have to sit up for proper part of glasses to let TV be in focus, sigh.
I’ve been hearing on the radio ads about “sweating the bed” and they are for Purple mattresses. Not sure how they claim their mattress helps with this, but could be worth looking into. We have a gel mattress (not Purple, not sure of the brand) and while it has helped my hip pain and tossing and turning considerably, no improvement and possibly worth in the night sweat dept.
No mattres will help with hot flashes. What really makes a difference is a cool room temperature and very very lightweight nightgown. Or no nightgown at all if you are OK with that (I am not). Also, eat edamame and tofu, those woukd help if you are lucky to metabolize their estrogen-like compounds.
Agree with a cool room for hot flashes. I sleep with an open window all spring, fall and winter (and most of the summer.) I run hot but have never had a problem with my memory foam mattress regarding heat. It’s the most comfortable mattress I have ever owned and it’s not a pricey brand name.
I sleep hot, so I can not imagine any mattress would help me unless it was made of ice! When I roll over in bed, the spot where I was is so hot, you would think I had a heated mattress pad under me. If not sleeping, you will usually fine me in the house with a sweatshirt on or under a blanket while watching tv. I have found sleeping with the overhead fan on works best for me. When I get too hot I through the covers off and left the fan cool me down; much easier than trying to figure out a mattress we both will be happy with.
I’m thinking of getting a gel cooling mattress topper to see if I like the coolness before buying a new mattress; I’d like to get a split mattress so that I can have my preferred firmness and coolness and H can can whatever he chooses.
I am tired of being tired, and of my friend group, I am the ONLY one wearing summer clothing year round!
