We need to buy a new mattress, we have a couple of pillow tops that everyone loves, but the tempur foam ones seem to be quite popular. Any opinions on one or the other?

I just got D a tempurpedic mattress topper for Xmas and she is quite happy with it. I actually posted this question on this forum “Good Xmas gift? Tempurpedic mattress topper” before Xmas and got some good responses from people who had either the topper or the full mattress. Then others were perfectly happy with a WalMart or Target version (at a fraction of the price).

Tempur-pedic gives much better, more even support. I love it. The pillowtops give me backaches (I have a herniated disk) if I sleep on them for more than a few days. However, some people find it the tempur-foam hot in the summer, because it doesn’t breathe.

We just got the Tempur-pedic Cloud a couple months ago. We love it. It is quite different so it takes a little getting used to. Also there was a very slight odor the first few days which has gone away now. We got the tempur-pedic pillows too. My husband has a physical job and problems with his back and he hasn’t complained at all since we got it. We previously had a pillow-top and for us with the pillow-top despite buying sheets specifically for them we always had problems with the sheets coming off in the middle of the night.

You need to try them all to see which works better for you. My younger daughter is the only one in my family who loves a Tempur-pedic. My older daughter has one at home but discovered at college how much more she loves a feather topper that we got her last year for her dorm bed. We purchased a “regular” mattress for her apartment bed and now she actually prefers sleeping at school to sleeping at home. My husband and I have a firm mattress and we love it, wouldn’t trade it for a Tempur-pedic ever!

My parents have a feather topper, D has a pillow top & we recently purchased a bed that has some sort of pillow top for us. I found it EXTREMELY HOT to sleep on, though I like the softness of the pillow top. My solution has been to lay a cotton quilt & beach blanket under the allergy control barrier & then top with the mattress pad & fitted bottom sheet. It is now perfect.

We don’t have AC & I really find foam very hot. This solution is not one I read anywhere but tried out of desparation. We got our mattress at Costco & had some nephews help with the delivery.
