We’re in the market for a new mattress too but it’s so personal…dh is happy in just about any bed but I need a very firm mattress. I’ve looked around a bit and have selected a couple Sterns and Foster mattresses that I want dh to see. The online ones just seem like too much of an unknown. Two of my Ds have tempurpedic but they’re too too soft for me. I did just discover that Cosco carries one particular firm Sterns and Foster mattress but it has a pillow top and the few I liked most did not. Love the savings Costco affords but it seems like such a waste of resources ($$, time, etc.) to take a chance that I’ll have to return it so I’m on the fence about which way to go.
For those who have an adjustable bed, how do you like it? Is there a problem with the sheets? Dh snores and I’d love it if he could sleep with his head elevated.
@treemaven Ashamed to admit it has been 30 years for us. How did you know which loomandleaf to choose without being able to try it?
Dowzerw, I read a lot of reviews, researched the different types of mattresses, and tried to figure out just what I thought would satisfy what I needed/wanted. Ultimately, I just took a leap of faith. (Hubble said he didn’t care what I got as long as I was happy.)
I found that laying around on a mattress at the store really never told me all that much. I never felt comfortable snuggling in and really settling into ‘sleep mode’ in a store. Always felt silly and stayed on the mattress very little. Also couldn’t really experience the bouncing around caused by hubbie’s coming and going, turning and settling, etc.
The reviews I read about the Loom and Leaf mattresses included several in which the purchasers did ultimately decide not to keep the mattress for one reason or another. And they all reported that the mattress was picked up, and they received their full costs back, no issues or hassles. Seemed like I had nothing to lose there but a bit of time, at most.
So I decided I’d give the extended in-house trial period a try. Worked out great—for us. I’m tempted to replace a couple other mattresses with them in other bedrooms.
@treemaven Thanks so much for that extended info. I have noticed many returnable mattresses have steep penalties for doing do so it really helps to hear these guys keep it simple. I’ll look a little closer at them.
Since sales tax depends on state rules, having a doctor’s note won’t save tax in every state.
Anyone have one of the new 'Purple Mattress" products? Looked them up online after seeing their ads here and there. Too expensive for my taste.
I want a mattress that doesn’t reek of chemicals.
@TranquilMind There is a certification in mattress land which supposedly addresses this. I think its called a CertiPure designation. From their website, "It means the foam in the bedding or upholstered furniture has been tested to meet CertiPUR-US rigorous standards for emissions, content, performance, and durability. Specifically, the foam is:
Made without ozone depleters
Made without PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (“Tris”) flame retardants
Made without mercury, lead and heavy metals
Made without formaldehyde
Made without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
Low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)"
I just ordered the Stearns and Foster from Costco because they’ll take it back at any time with out charge. Crossing my fingers that it works for us.
