Mattress Recommendations?

Our mattress is way overdue too be replaced and we are not impressed with the meager local offerings. Are there any folks would highly recommend? Prefer coils, pillow top, medium firmness. Many are sold online now so you buy and then try it out.

We are in the same search, and it seems so hard to make a decision. We may end up going with a traditional coil mattress that has additional memory foam surrounding it on both sides, so it can be flipped regularly. Original Mattress Factory is local to us, but also appears to have stores in 9 states. That is our next stop on the shopping tours.

We did buy a memory foam only mattress for our S at Rooms to Go Outlet, not sure how regional/national that chain is.

Dreamfoam (Brooklyn Bedding) Arctic Dreams 10 inch gel foam gets good reviews, similar to Tuft and Needle but less cost.

I really like the W bed, which is a Simmons Beautyrest mattress made for W Hotels. Over the past 10 years, our various family members have probably purchased 8 to 10 of them and it’s everyone’s favorite. It is available on the W hotels store website, and I never pay full price; there are frequent promotions for 30 to 40% off, or $900 off, etc.

If you happen to live in New England, I highly recommend going to Jordan’s Furniture. They have tons of models to try out, helpful staff, and the prices are lower than those mattress store places. https://www.jordans.com/mattress-types

"Prefer coils, pillow top, medium firmness. "
That’s what we were looking for and had success there. We initially purchased one brand but we weren’t happy with it and used the stores’ 90 day exchange policy to get a Beautyrest.

I can’t get over how many brand lines are only sold online, often very expensive ones. Seems so risky. One I was considering, called the Reverie, cost upwards of $4000! Considered going with the Hilton bed but reviews said it started to lose it’s life by 10 months.

A commercial just came on for a Nectar mattress. Told nothing about the mattress. How are we expected to make these choices!

@doschicos @ciervo @compmom. Thanks for taking time to share about specific models or retail outlets. We will check those out.

We have had great success at Bob’s Discount Furniture, which is a regional chain in New England. A cousin of DH’s used to be in the furniture/mattress business, and he was a great resource for us. We prefer coils with pillow top to pure foam, and due to back issues, DH needs an extra firm mattress, which suits me perfectly fine.

We are in MD now and I havent seen any Bobs’ around here.

We bought a Saatva online. It sucks. We are going back to Gardner, a New England company that we have bought mattresses from for decades. They are excellent. We just tried to save a few bucks. Never again!

I bought two, beauty rest black cool air memory firm mattresses. The Black is their best. I was ready to try a memory form as compared to coils. So far, every guest has loved the new mattress

@Massmomm Glad to get your feedback. I thought the Saatvas were supposed to be good.
@bookworm Tried a Beautyrest gel top tonight at Pottery Barn. We liked it but they said it wou
ld be 6-8 weeks for delivery. Hoping to find Beautyrests available that don’t get custom made.

Also tried the Westin Heavenly bed. Thought we would love it but the plush top was not as cushy as we would have liked.

I think the traditional mattress companies must be pretty nervous. I see a lot of memory foam mattress companies advertising on TV. I have to say the memory foam mattress we bought at Ikea for about $350 is the best mattress I’ve ever slept on by far. I can only imagine how wonderful the pricier memory foam mattress might be. Certainly I’ll never go back to a conventional mattress.

@bookworm. Is the black Beautyrest you got totally memory foam or coils and memory foam. I have been looking at one at Mattress Firm that is coils and the memory foam on top. May I ask where you purchased yours? It is very confusing because the same Beautyrest mattress has different names and minor style changes at different retailers. I think that true of Pottery Barn also @dowzerw

I like my mattress I bought online. It is a Helix. @Massmomm were you not able to return it? Or did you determine your Saatva sucked after the 90 days return?

Beauty rest black mattress firm Black ice. Mattress firm exclusive

I looked at the tempurpedics and traditional, but liked this. The combination of coils and memory foam, which cost a little more, but didn’t want or need the extra inches. My bed is on an adjustable base, and I sleep with the head part elevated. Ronnie, if I didn’t have the adjustable bed frame, I could have gone for the mattress you are looking at.

For the record, the salesman suggested I get a note from my doctor that I needed a new mattress for my back. That saved 7% sales tax.

Really? I wish I had known that last year when we bought new mattresses and adjustable bed frames! 7% of a lot is a lot! Thanks, @bookworm!

I’m with @ciervo on the W bed. Bought one years ago and our house got hooked!

Pattsmom, I’m sorry I didn’t know that sooner. Neither my orthopedist nor the pain doctor asked me about my mattress. It really does make a difference.

After my experience, I mentioned this to my female, patient, whose spouse was having some serious back issues. They had not replaced their mattress in 40 years( worse than me). They went to the store where I bought mine, and got great savings, including a free adjustable bed frame.

Mattress firm First time I didn’t buy at a department store

@dowzerw we liked the Saatva until the trial period expired. It’s built up much higher on the sides than in the middle, so it basically turns into a canoe when two people are on it. And we are both very slim, so it’s not that we have too much weight on it. And weight is something to consider. Many mattresses aren’t made for heavier people and will break down faster over time, especially if they just have a latex or memory foam top over a coil mattress.

We had not bought a new mattress in 20 years and finally it occurred to me that could be part of my back problem. My daughter swears by Tempurpedic, but I was put off by the cost and the unknown.

Finally after much research, I took a chance and ordered from https://www.loomandleaf.com.

Both my husband and I LOVE the mattress. It was as easy as advertised re: ordering, delivery, and old mattress removal. I highly recommend this mattress and company.
