Mattress topper?

What mattress toppers have you purchased? I’m deciding what to get for college & I would like to get a good one. There’s so many types… So any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Got a Tempur-pedic for my kid from Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
She did not like it, though - prefer to sleep in a sleeping bag in her friends’ room. :((

Kid #1…we got those egg crate foam toppers. He got one at the start of the school year…and threw it in the trash at the end of the school year. $12 at BBB. Once he moved into his own apartment off campus, he had a good mattress…and just had a great mattress pad.

Kid #2 lived in a newly remodeled dorm with brand spanking new mattresses which were really good. We got her a mattress cover, and a really good synthetic filled mattress pad (sort of like a feather bed, but synthetic filled). She was able to machine wash it…and was sent home after sophomore year. Its on a spare twin bed.

Got both sons: Threshold Memory Foam Topper from Target $29.99. Very happy with the product.

For my D2, I recently got a great memory Foam Topper w/ some kind of gel top on one side, 2.5" thick at Sam’s Club, Twin $79.99
this one is really nice.

3 yrs ago, I got my D1 the memory foam one at BB&B for a lot more even w/ the coupon.
We also have the " zipped mattress cover thing" for bugs. A peace of mind, a must have for my 2 kids.

Okay thanks for the recommendations! What sizes did you get?

All the dorm rooms that I know of have twin XL bed.
So, get the twin size.

Update… I ended up getting one from Costco

Is it memory foam? If you plan on driving it to the dorm and have extra room in the car, I recommend airing it out a bit at home. It will swell beyond the size of the box in which it came, but it will save you a hassle of doing it in your dorm room.

BB, is that your cat or just a photo of anonymous cat?

D2 had a memory foam topper and loved it. Agree with above about taking it out of the box before hand.

Nrdsb, that is the same cat that was in my very first avatar (sitting on the stove). It is my D’s cat that is coming to live with us soon. He is a darling. The black kitty with shining eyes is his cute sister.

We looked into mattress toppers in great detail because our kid had hip surgery and could not sleep without a lot of cushioning. The best we found was at Costco. It was 3" thick and had almost no smell out of the bag. They change names but the quality of the thick ones is, it seems, the same.

Agreed… The $300 one from BBB felt no different from the much cheaper one at costco

Yup, we love our mattress topper from Costco. Can’t beat their prices.

BB, adorable. :)

I posted this on the wrong thread the first time…
Ok, I need help with the bed topper. I ordered one from Macys (Martha Stewart Collection 1.5" Geo Max Memory Foam Twin Topper Web ID: 994531- it’s 140 but I hit a good sale and got it for 59). But I see costco has thicker ones for a reasonable price. Sounds like people really like the thicker ones from Costco. I’m looking to spend around $100 or less. Is thicker always better? Should I just go for the Costco special of the month?

Thanks

My kid’s experience is with a post-surgical hip and that benefitted from the 3". Each person is different.

With how crappy and thin my dorm’s mattresses look… The thicker the pad and topper the better.

we got a king size 4 lb density, 2 inch memory foam topper from Overstock.com and cut it in half for 2 twin xl. Shipping was only $2.95. I cannot remember the brand, but I know it had little holes in it for ventilation.

Density matters - try for at least 4 pounds
