mattress

I thought this was going to be easy but I am running out of ideas. Looking to purchase a memory foam mattress for my son (sophomore at Allegheny in PA). Had the Sealy Blue Lake picked out to get from Sears but cannot get to ship there and cannot get here since it is out of stock. Have tried Sams, Costco, JCP and Sears. US Mattress keeps coming up as a possible purchase but the reviews are awful for the service, anyone use them? How about the mattresses bought from Overstock, there are no manufactures listed so I was not sure of the quality? Any help would be appreciated. DS has done heavy lifting for two summers and the dorm beds kill him. Thanks.

I bought a mattress for D1 from Overstock 2 years ago. She loved it . I loved it because it cost me $2 for shipping.

Check out Target. I got a latex foam mattress from them but they also had memory foam. Cosco has some decent ones as does Ikea. Thing about a memory foam topper with an egg crate on top of that.

Bed, Bath & Beyond.

i think Bed and Bath just has the mattress toppers, not the mattresses themselves. What about Sleepys?

[Memory Foam Mattress, Memory Foam Mattresses, Memory Foam, Mattress](http://mawandpawsbargains.com/)
we bought a mattress for our daughter from them - free shipping, relatively cheap, and good quality. Got it within a week.

We just got [Amazon.com: 2.0" Visco2 Ventilated Mattress Enhancer: Kitchen & Dining](http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Studio-Ventilated-Mattress-Enhancer/dp/B000LQESKQ) Free shipping, even. It said 4 - 6 weeks shipping but we got it in 3 days.

Sam’s Club has memory foam mattresses online but not in the stores. The mattresses have very good reviews by customers on the website.

Costco. They will deliver.

Craigslist is another option if you’re willing to go with a USED mattress. S bought his at IKEA, but they don’t deliver. :frowning: If you can get a good delivery price from Overstock, that sounds like a great idea. We had to have relatives move our mattress when we bought it from Costco. Thank goodness they helped!

^beware of used mattresses, they could contain bed bugs.

Will your son be living off campus this year? Does Alleghenny allow students to use their own mattresses? Most schools do NOT allow this in their dorms. Of the few that I’ve heard of that DO, there is the issue of storing the dorm mattress…they do not allow the mattresses to be stored out of the room.

Some schools don’t even allow foam toppers for mattresses (fire issues).

Maybe you’ve already checked this out…but better safe than sorry.

Son bought a foam mattress from IKEA, it was sold rolled up tightly and needed time to flatten but was easy to transport in a regular car. He is happy with it.

I second the ‘no used mattress’ idea. I’m a microbiologist and the thought of bedbugs and other critters is just too horrible.

did you check the chamber of commerce website for the town where Allegheny is to see if a local store sells mattresses?

My h and I got a memory foam mattress from Isoform ([Isoform Mattress](http://www.isoform.com)) a few years ago and absolutely love it. It’s a PA company, and looks to only be about 1.5 hours from Allegheny.

You can buy a memory foam mattress topper in a single long size and that will work on a dorm mattress. Both my Ds were able to use them. No rules against it. We got them directly from Tempurpedic (sp?). It cost more than some of the foam toppers from other places, but it wore well. D2 has taken hers to the camp where she’s a counselor every summer in addition to using it at school. I’ve got the one that D1 used on a bunk bed in a guest room in a summer place and it’s working out. Will put D2’s topper on the other bunk bed after she graduates next year.

I agree that you should carefully check with housing wherever your S will be living to be sure he’s actually supposed to supply a mattress. My kids’ colleges would not allow students to bring their own mattresses if they were living in university housing.
