I was looking at the scaled score table at the end of the practice ETS booklet for the Biochem/Cell/MolBio subject test (ETS Home) and I noticed that getting all 178 questions right only yielded a scaled score of 840. ETS says that the scoring range for subject tests is 200-990. So why is 840 apparently the max for the Biochem test? I don't get the score equating process at all--why don't they just curve a raw score of 178 to 990?

I'm very confused, so any help/clarification would be much appreciated!
