That’s true. I took 17 credits in my first year and I’m regretting. First year is supposed to be exploring. I changed from pre-med to comm+econ so I essentially wasted a year. That’s the reason I had to overload. Don’t do it unless it’s necessary and you know you have the persistence and ability to cope with the course load. It’s always easier in the beginning of the semester since there’s not as many assignments, mid-terms, papers at that time so you’ll be deceived that you can handle all of them.

Most of the time your dean won’t let you overload in your first semester anyway. After that, among other conditions, you have to have 3.5 (or 3.0 I forgot) GPA in the previous semester in order to get the permission.
