You can find lots of info for transfers at:

The answer to your specific question is on the left side of the first page at:

Hah, keep in mind that almost every question asked on here can be answered by looking on a website.

I have been told repeatedly by the Berkeley transfer counselor that as long as you only have CCC credits, you can accrue AS MANY CCC CREDITS AS YOU WANT and it will NOT be looked at negatively in any way by the admissions people. With that in mind, only 70 units can actually transfer.

ive read that link and it says that you can take as many as you want but only 70credits transfer…

does this mean that the other classes wont count and therefore wont be wieghted into the GPA?

i took the wrong philosophy class for my legal studies major, and i received a B, im currently going to take the correct one for the fall, assuming im on track I will have more than 70 units, does this mean that i can simply replace that class with ones more suitable and not count that within my GPA?

No.

Every class and every credit counts in your GPA.

… but your transfer GPA is not figured into your institutional GPA (in the case of the UCs, the UC-system GPA).

For example, if I were to take all my credits at a CCC, when I transferred they’d give me 70 credits for courses (placement, IGETC, etc.) and the GPA would essentially “disappear.” Then I would receive a “UC-GPA” and a “Berkeley GPA” as I began to take classes at Berkeley.

In my case, I went to UCSC to RCC and then up (well, ideally) to Berkeley. I would have a UCSC GPA, an RCC GPA and a Berkeley GPA. My RCC GPA would fade to nothing, but Berkeley GPA would start from scratch, and my UC GPA would be the combination of my UCSC GPA and my new Berkeley GPA.

To add to this, if you have prior 4-year work, as long as you accrue 30+ semester units from a CCC you are allowed to have as many credits as you would like and they’ll take 70 of them. If you do not complete 30 semester credits at the community college, then you will be ineligible for transfer after 89 credits have been reached. Confusing? You betcha! :P

so what your saying is, the CC GPA has only 70 credits transfered to bekerely, and with those 70 credits, becomes your bekerely GPA?

no.

The GPA associated with the 70 credits that transfer is NOT included in your Berkeley GPA.

Your Berkeley GPA includes the work you actually do at Berkeley.
