May 14th Open House

Who else is going? Anyone recommend I do something that most students wouldn’t think to do?

Me! I wanna go watch the ScavOlyimpics or judgment day! Were pretty lucky to be visiting during Scav…

I am so excited!

I didn’t know if a lot of people were going with their parents so I’m going with my mom.

Yea, the scav hunt looks interesting

Most people will tell you to check out the Seminary Co-Op, which you should, as you should also eat lunch on campus in the dining halls. (If you’re going on the May 14th open house, they’ll be more crowded than usual with prospies).

If you’re going to be eating lunch here, sit with students! Talk to them! I’m actually surprised at how few students and parents actually sit at the large house tables, where they could be privy to student discussion, and instead decide to separate off at smaller tables.

Also, walk down 57th street towards the lake. You’ll pass by quaint stores, beautiful homes, and lots of happy students. If it’s really nice outside, definitely walk north along the beach until you’ve reached a bunch of stone benches and have a fantastic view of the downtown.

We want to go, but cannot! We have to visit in the fall, when school is in. Any recommendations as to the best time before November 1st to visit?? Thanks,

Best time to visit before November 1? As far ahead of November 1 as possible!

Just kidding, but be aware that parents weekend (called family weekend) is at the end of October, putting a lot of pressure on parking and lodging nearby. Also watch out for big Chicago conventions in the fall. You’d know one is in town because hotel rooms would be expensive, unavailable or both.

Based on long term knowledge of Chicago weather and campus life, I would say early October is ideal. Classes start late at UofC so a September visit would be to an empty campus (or worse, a campus full of lost first years, who start a week earlier for orientation).

All this stuff is online, under the University and Academic calendars. If you want links, let us know.

I believe there’s a Columbus Day Open House this fall. In the past, God has granted us great weather for the program, proving once and for all that God loves the University of Chicago. The open house days are great and run extremely smoothly, and you have a chance to meet the admissions officers and go to workshops about life during/after college, financial aid, student life, etc, as well as meet prospective and current students en masse.

You can also just visit on your own and do the info session and tour by yourself-- if you want to see classes in session, don’t come on a Friday, because most classes are M/W or Tu/Thur with extra lab/discussion components on Fridays.

Thank you - we will look for the beginning of October to visit, I saw there is an Open House weekend. Thanks!

Thank you - I read that seniors in high school can attend classes and stay overnight - is this true? I think that would be a great way to get to know the school.

They can! And it is!

Thank you, amykins! I really appreciate your help!

I think all of the CC juniors should ‘narrow the competition’ lol
