May 2012 Math Discussion

More:
34 for the A/8 + 2/9 or whatever that was
48 for the sequence with squares minus one
-5 < f(x) < 3 for some parabola
j = 1/6 – not sure if I already said this

Damn… looks like I’m already -2 now, 1 wrong (60, 200) and 1 omitted. Does anyone remember putting down “E” for the “A/8 + 2/9 = B/72” question?

@Michael

I put 2/5 and so many other people I talked to did as well. It was my screw up but they could cancel it if too many people who score high mess up just on that question.

@lemniscate I agree 100%, if 34 was answer choice “E.” I just guessed on that one…

@eagles

It’s a hard question (#17). The math was simple so the wording was intentional-- it was meant to trick you up… they won’t void it.

I got 34 too and I believe it was letter E. Also I messed up on the 4/5 one for reading monthly (I put 2/5) but I doubt they’d cancel it. They design the test to mess people up like that. Funny thing is I second-guessed my answer but decided not to change it, meh.

They don’t void questions based on how many people screw up a question.

I know I’m coming off as a huge ******* right now and I’m really sorry but that other guy who was talking about voiding the x^y question annoyed the hell out of me

@kevin good, I just somehow remember choice E being 32… weird, huh?

Are there different questions in the experimental section for each person? I had a math experimental, so unless I accidentally didn’t see a few questions, I definitely didn’t have the scatterplot, the holes at -4 and 4 graph, or the inches to miles scale problems…

I think got 4 for another question too… I think it was |ax-1|<1 where a is a positive even integer or something.

lol michael I understand where you are coming from but lets just chill.

Right now I just need to make sure 32 wasn’t one of the choices for “A/9 + 2/9 = B/72.”
Can anyone confirm this? Because I remember putting down “E,” but I also remember putting down 32. Maybe I just confused 32 with 34???

I didn’t have math exp and I had the inches to miles (EDIT: years) scale problem… that was def REAL

No way they void that question. It was question #17, the tricky wording was entirely intentional.

I had the years to inches scale problem (they were making a timeline for 200 years and had a piece of paper 60 inches long), which I also got an answer of 3/10 to, but not a inches to miles one…

@chachaseeds
Doesn’t really matter if it was 32 or 34 because there was only one answer that was in the 30s and it was E (all of the others were in the 20s and below). So you’re fine.

Again, can anyone else confirm that 32 was NOT a choice for the “A/8 + 2/9 = B/72” question?

what about the adding two terms and subtracting one question? anyone remember?

I’m positive it was 34.

Have we figured out yet which was the math exp? I think I had a math exp, but I can’t remember, because I wasn’t focused on counting sections during the exam…
