May 2013 Biology SAT 2 test

@parallelism wait are you sure the carbon cycle/photosynthesis one was that it moves slowly through the carbon cycle? cuz what does that have to do with photosynthesis

I put 800,000 too
what did you guys get for the coenzyme question… it was one of the first questions appeared on the test

@emwang if the CO2 is found in rocks and moves really slow through this cycle, it can’t be readily available for photosynthesis. Therefore most photosynthesis comes from other sources; atmosphere, etc.

coenzyme was vitamins
the inorganic nutrient that is used in many cell processes was calcium right?

Soil Question:

Original Sample- Diluted by factor of .001 = .001x
.1 mL of Sample Taken- .1 x .001x= .0001x
.0001x produces 80 colonies

Original Sample- .1 mL is Taken
.1x = 1,000 times larger than .0001x
80 *1000= 80,000 coloniees

i put 800,000 because it was 0.1 mL dissolved into a 1 L. Therefore there are ten 0.1 ml in 1 mL and then 1000 of those in a L so 10x1000 is 10,000 x 80 = 800,000. and yeah coenzyme was vitamin and calcium was the cell processes

Wasn’t calcium the coenzyme and vitamin b12 the inorganic nutrient?

minerals like calcium are cofactors* not coenzymes. Vitamins are coenzymes…i hate these wordings lol i thought i messed that one up, but right after the test i went to my barrons book and was like “Phew!”

Did they dissolve .1 mL in the Liter solution or 1 mL for the soil sample question?

0.1 ml into 1 L. How do you guys think the curve is going to be?

darn well that makes one incorrect

lol…oh well. how about the one about taking out a portion of the large intestine was the answer that the feces would be watery (which i put) or malnutrition (bc i thought maybe vitamin k synthesis would be messed up)

It was hard for me :// I feel like I guessed on over half

Yeah I put watery feces because the large intestine absorbs water (main function)

yeah reabsorption of water. I think we’ll be fine…bc i think it was a little harder than last years test…(a lot harder than that one actually) …so far i think i got 3 wrong or maybe 4 which is like 800/780-790. Even 8 wrong is a 760. well be fine with a nice curve

what did you guys put for the one with starch being made from monosaccahrides? the answer choices were carbon dioxide is made as by product, water is made as by product, only occurs in animal cells, only occurs in photosynthesis ?

water is made as a product due to dehydration synthesis

@emwang So basically this was a dehydration synthesis process. The reaction states:
monosaccharide + monosaccharide -> disaccharide + water. So the answer would be: water is made as a by product.

which one did you guys put for the question comparing apes and humans?

brain cortex or w.e. and yeah water as a byproduct :)
