May 2013 SAT Discussion Thread

okay guys I know this has caused a lot of debate, but what’s your opinion on “only grudgingly” vs “allowed to enter” (chef passage in the Writing section)? I put the latter but I don’t know…

I can’t decide whether to cancel my score or not because I already missed 1 each in CR and Math, missed 2 in Writing (if I got this “entrance” question wrong), and wrote a mediocre essay. Not counting any silly mistakes or questions that haven’t been discussed here :/

I meant I had 4 sections and everyone is saying it is the one about corn but I didn’t have one on corn…so I don’t know which one it is then

@Rschudy12
Ohh I got 2^4x for that one…
I bombed the math section. I literally almost cried from how badly I did. I thought reading and writing were alright though.
For the RC question about Wuthering Heights, where it asked whether the author was talking about the setting used in the book, or was showing a contrast between readers’ perception vs reality, what’d you say?
I said perception vs reality… but I felt like it could have gone either way.

The ones that everyone got were the suburbia, expedition, and salsa ones. Anything more than that was experimental (mine was about a chinese chef being observed by a journalist).

@ubiquitous
I didn’t have a corn passage either…

@kath I think “only grudgingly” is the right answer. There is no grammatical significance of changing “entrance into” to “to enter,” but adding “only” in front of grudgingly smoothens the transition from not wanting to work with the kid to allowing him into the kitchen.

Does anyone remember the wording for the “entrance” vs. “to enter” question? I’m not sure which one you guys are referring to.

Oh I had one about deception
I was hoping the suburbia one was the experimental…I missed the “postulate” vocab on that one

I think I put the entrance one. I mean, the question said to choose the correction that was MOST needed. I figured the “only” intensified the “grudgingly” but it didn’t add much to the sentence. So I chose the entrance one (I think. Lol, I can’t even remember what happened yesterday.)

I’m aiming for a 2300+.

Estimate my score?

Math: All right
CR: 2 to 4 wrong
Writing: 1 to 2 wrong, 8-10 on essay

Was who vs whom part of this section or was that experimental?

I got a “Who or whom” question and I had a math experimental.

Okay, I have a couple questions.

1) For math, there was a question which showed a function g(x) and it said how many times does g(p) = 2 and the answers were like one, two, three, four, five…
What was the answer? (this was on the 20 question math section)

2) How many no errors did you get from 12-29 on the 35 question writing section?
I got 5 but I think that is way too much… anyone sure of how many no errors there were?

3) There was a question from 12-29 that had “from combining” as underlined… was that the wrong one or was it no error?

Thanks!

1) For math, there was a question which showed a function g(x) and it said how many times does g(p) = 2 and the answers were like one, two, three, four, five…
What was the answer?

I put three.

2) How many no errors did you get from 12-29 on the 35 question writing section?
I got 5 but I think that is way too much… anyone sure of how many no errors there were?

I heard there where three. I had four, but I know one of them was a mistake.

Are you certain it was three? I put two
And yeah I guess it is usually around 3 or 4…
I think for the MC Writing 1 or 2 wrong might be an 800 still depending on your essay because there was a couple questions that have been heavily debated.

@ oldschoolboy

I think you’re talking about the “Prior to the Sherman Antitrust Act…” one. I put that there was no error.

I put twice for the g(p) question, since it was a parabola. Could be wrong though. g(x) had a point where y=2 also, but it was identified as a different function with an arrow IIRC.

@ petsounds

I remember it being a piece-wise function. g(p) equaled 2, twice for the parabola part and once for the line part, so three times.

@DivisionbyZero

Okay well I put that as no error and I believe that was #18?
I also had 20 and 21 as no error, I don’t remember those but do you?
I had #15 as no error and I had either #26 or #27 as no error too.
So I had #18, #20, #21, #15, and $26 or #27 as no error, if anyone remembers can they tell me what they had?
Uggh have to wait 18 days till we get our scores!

@DivisionbyZero
@petsounds
So is it 100% sure it was 3?

I put 3 times for that g(p) question
