Maybe im making it more complicated than It needs to be but...

following academic dismissal from a JC for messing up one too many times, is it possible to go to another JC a year later and get financial aid and student loans. Also, if one gets a Pell Grant, does it disqualify one from getting a student loan? In other words, is it a one or the other type of thing?

You will need to provide a transcript from your first college when you apply to the second. It sounds like you did NOT meet SAP (satisfactory academic progress) at the first school. You will need to contact the second college to find out how this will affect your ability to get aid there. Each school has its own SAP procedures.

If you are entitled to receive the Pell Grant, you will get it. You can also take out Direct loans, but I don’t believe your total can exceed the cost of attending your college…but then…why would you take out loans for MORE than you need. HOWEVER, no federal aid will be given to you until you resolve the SAP issue from your first school.

And just in case you were thinking you did not need to provide that first school’s transcript…well…don’t think that. It is required.

The current JC I am at now qualified me for financial aid already.
I remember reading somewhere that an academic dismissal from one JC doesnt affect your eligibility at another JC.
I already applied to go back to the JC i was disqualified from and the board will review it this fall. I dont know if this counts as resolving it though.
Basically, I dont want to be in a situation where I am expecting financial aid help for this fall, and I sign up for all my classes only to discover that because I have a dismissal at a different JC, I wont qualify after all.

Like I said…if you have not met satisfactory academic progress at school number one, you will need to talk to school number two regarding your eligibility for federally funded aid.

I’ve never heard that not meeting SAP at one JC will be ignored by another. This is federal funding.

Maybe I’m wrong…if so, I’m sure someone will correct me.

You must meet SAP to receive federally funded aid…and I don’t think switching schools will make a difference UNLESS school two has a more lenient policy…or you successfully appeal your SAP situation.

If you were dismissed from the first JC, I would imagine you did not meet SAP…but maybe I’m wrong!
