Nick Baumel, a MS4 student was expelled on Match Day (Monday) for violating professionalism and social media standards at Mayo’s Alix School of Medicine.
Baumel, who is a “medfluencer” with 500K followers on Instagram posted two crude, offensive and misogynistic videos about female patients’ genitals on his account 2 weeks ago. Baumel has since taken down the posts and shut down his social media account.
The videos drew substantial backlash from female physicians and med students at Mayo and elsewhere. Numerous complaints were filed with Dean of Students and other administrators at Mayo SOM.
Mayo has apologized for Baumel’s postings.
