MCB AP exams

So on this site right here I found that basically only calc, chem, and bio AP exams are accepted for MCB. So do they mean these are the courses of the MCB major, but other (general) courses can be accepted? Because if these are the only courses accepted then I find almost no point in doing the AP exams (except bio) that I signed up for this year, or did any of you find that your AP exams became useful some other time? Second, they suggest that you do their courses - did you find that not taking their courses and going on to the next bio courses were fine w/o taking theirs? (just some background info: I’m aiming for aiming for med eventually - absolutely unique of course).

AP tests can be used against some general [L&S requirements/url. AP credit that is useless for subject credit may give generic units that can improve your standing for registration purposes.

However, medical schools typically do not like to see AP credit used against pre-med”>https://career.berkeley.edu/Medical/PrepPrereq.stm]pre-med requirements](http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requirement/summary.html), so you may want to check each medical school to see whether it is acceptable to substitute more advanced courses in cases where you have AP credit for courses that are to be used for pre-med requirements. You may want to ask this question on the pre-med forum.

Yeah, so assuming that you’re no different than 99% of premeds, you will end up taking Bio 1A/L, Bio 1B, Chem 1A, and Math 1A/B here at Cal. It doesn’t hurt to still take your AP tests though (I mean you might as well, if you don’t mind spending the extra $$$).

Thanks for the help ( I’ll be sure to check with a few med schools and the pre-med forum too. )
