McCain supports ethnic cleansing - 600,000 people, including the best educated, most pro-Western, liberal Iraqis have fled their homes just between July and October, according to the UNHCR. They are bankrupt, and many are now supported by having their children sell themselves on the street. Not one word from the “experienced leader” on supporting them. The sheiks who the U.S. supported in Anbar against Al-Qaeda have now been overthrown. The Shiite government says that once the so-called Awakening has taken out Al-Qaeda, they are to be repudiated like so much dogmeat.

Oh, yes, the so-called “surge” is working. U.S. troops in Basra are afraid to leave the airport. Turkey is bombing the Kurds. Electricity is down to two hours a day in much of the country. Medical supplies are being hijacked as soon as they enter the country from the west. And there is reconciliation everywhere!

Resurrecting this thread as I’m interested to hear/see everyone’s view on the situation now. McCain has fared much better in recent primaries than many people would’ve imagined.

In spite of all Romney’s money, his favorable ratings haven’t really improved and he hasn’t had a substantial win in quite a while.

What are y’all’s predictions for Super Tuesday?

As interesting as the primary season has been so far, perhaps the most exciting aspects of this election are yet to come!

I’m pleased that, with so many different candidate, lots of topics have been brought to the forefront & good discussions have ensued. There is still lots more that HASN"T been discussed - I don’t think any of the candidates have really gotten into eachother’s weaknesses yet. If the Obama tide continues to swell, it will be interesting to see if Hillary really takes the gloves off. Problem is, he hasn’t really been around long enough to acrue many negatives. And how can you attack him on what he says when he rarely actually SAYS anything of real substance? Does he really stand a chance against the “Clinton machine”?

What vulnerabilities do you all think will come out that haven’t been targeted yet?

Pass the popcorn - this could get very very interesting soon!

mini - where do you get that info?
You make many assertions with no documentation."

No assertions. I documented the UNHCR report in depth, including links to the original report, and to the news stories covering it.

I don’t feel obligated, having put in links twice, to do so at everyone’s individual bidding. If you are interested, I am sure you have the capacity to look it up.

“Unfortunately, I can give you four thousand reasons to hate McCain. I can give those same four thousand reasons to hate Hillary as well.”

Which is why I had a growing sense of dread and sinking despondency the longer the day wore on: I suspect our collective national ass may be grass.

I was and remain very offended by McCain’s repeated jibes at Romney because the latter had the audacity to MAKE MONEY IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. As a republican and conservative, that mindset sets my teeth on edge.

“zoosermom, if McCain is the nominee do you think conservatives will “hold their noses” and vote for him and send him money?”

Without question. The base will be more energized if HIllary is the candidate, but yes McCain will get republican/conservative votes. We may not be happy about it, but considering the alternative . . .

Vyse, Yes, I agree, I’d like to know why mini says “Rick Perry is the one”

Personally, he makes my skin crawl. I have known him since his days as RR commissioner, and he is a, well, I don’t like saying mean things about people. BUT, I wouldn’t vote for him if he ran for anything.

the disasters in Iraq that mini summarized are indeed true. Unfortunately few people in the USA are aware of them because of the main stream medias utter failure in reporting meaningful news from around the world. View a half hour of network news or CNN and compare it with a half hour of BBC World and you will see what I am talking about.

As to McCain, i believe that he is probably the best candidate the Republicans can field and he will be a formidable candidate vs whoever the Democrats nominate.

As the race is shaking out, anybody who plans to vote on the issues will have a pretty clear choice. If McCain gets the nomination, the Republican establisment will suddenly remember that he’s a great guy, and the money will flow in. They can’t afford to be on his bad side if, by some incredible stroke of fortune, he should win.

Exactly because I understand the man never forgets a slight.
